Apple AirTag: Price, features and everything you need to know about it
After showing off the latest device at its Spring-Loaded event, Apple’s long-awaited AirTag device is finally expected to hit the market. In a nutshell, the AirTag is used to monitor and locate lost objects, but here’s everything you need to know about it before deciding if it’s worth adding to your Apple collection.
Cost
Cost is the most important question. AirTags are available for $29 for one and $99 for a pack of four, or Dh129 and Dh439 in the UAE. They’ll be available to order online starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 30.
How does it work?
The tag is attached to a handbag, keys, or backpack, and it connects to Apple’s Find My app. On a map, users can see the item’s current or last-known position. If a user misplaces their item and it is within Bluetooth range, they can use the Find My app to have the AirTag play a sound to help them find it. Users may also ask Siri to locate their object, and if it is nearby, AirTag will play a sound.
If the AirTag becomes separated from its owner and is no longer within Bluetooth range, the Find My network will assist in its recovery. According to Apple, the Find My network, which is approaching a billion Apple devices, will detect Bluetooth signals from a lost AirTag and secretly and privately relay the location back to its owner. Are you concerned about losing your luggage while travelling? This could be the solution.
What if someone else finds your AirTag?
They can tap it with their iPhone or any other NFC-capable smartphone to be taken to a website that displays the owner’s contact phone number, if one has been given.
Durability of AirTag
It’s made of precision-etched polished stainless steel that’s water and dust resistant to IP67 standards. It has a battery-replacement cover that can be removed. The tag is said to have a battery life of more than a year when used regularly, according to Apple.
Customization options
Without a doubt. After all, this is Apple, so there are plenty of accessories to choose from, but they aren’t inexpensive. When purchased from Apple, the AirTag can be personalized with free engraving that includes text and a set of 31 emojis.
The Polyurethane Loop ($29) is lightweight and sturdy, while the Leather Loop ($39) and Leather Key Ring ($35) are made from specially tanned European leather. Apple has also teamed up with top designer Hermes to create “an elegant collection of handcrafted leather accessories.”
The Bag Charm, Key Ring, Travel Tag, and Luggage Tag are all part of the AirTag Hermes collection. Hermes can sell accessories with a custom-engraved AirTag based on the Clou de Selle signature. Prices are subject to change.
Compatibility with Apple devices
It works with iOS 14.5 or later on an iPhone or iPod Touch, or iPadOS 14.5 or later on an iPad. Starting next week, people will start receiving these software updates. Customers must be signed into their iCloud account and have an Apple ID.
